FLUID IMPRESSIONS
Hamilton Aguiar’s newest series of large-scale paintings evince his technical expertise with material, shape, and color. “Fluid Impressions” calls attention to the importance of medium and process as inextricably linked to understanding the artist’s vision and place in the world. Form and color dominate the picture plane in each painting. Employing limited color schemes, simple floral forms overlay equally simple squares and speaks to the fluidity of human memory and consciousness. Though at first glance the work appears to hold a rather uncomplicated composition; yet, each piece bears witness to the laborious additive process involving numerous layers to achieve a flawless finish and visual depth. While the drips of paint hint at modern art history in the work of Salvador Dali, or in an obsessively controlled drip of Jackson Pollock, the fluid, rhythmic, organic quality of the floral shapes create a unique visual experience for the viewer.
Hamilton Aguiar’s work is widely exhibited by galleries, exhibition spaces, and national/international fairs across the United States, Latin America, and Europe. His work is seen in permanent collections such as, the Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach, CA; FAMA-Fundacao Marcos Amaro, Sao Paolo, Brazil; Oppenheimer Funds, Rochester, NY; Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Rochester, NY; as well as numerous private and public collections across the globe.
