Yonnie, Samara Weaver, and Tish Williams
Interwoven

Interwoven is a group exhibition currently on view at our brick-and-mortar location, 1313 N Market, Wilmington, DE, featuring the intriguing textile works of Yonnie, Samara Weaver, and Tish Williams. Using various textile mediums, including yarn, cloth, and felt, their pieces tell the story of the complex woof and weft that connects us all. This exhibition highlights each artist's unique interpretation of this connection.

The three artists boast distinctive styles that come together and play with one another to form a genuinely affecting exhibition. Yonnie’s expressive pieces highlight individuality and self-exploration using fabrics, yarn, and photographs. Samara Weaver uses hand-spun wool, felt, and porcelain to create gorgeous organic pieces that examine the unique properties of her materials. Tish Williams, too, uses various textile materials to uncover deeper connections between herself and the world around her. Tish finds a spiritual connection with her work and feels that the act of creating unlocks higher levels of thought. By exhibiting the three artists together, you can experience each narrative and explore the fabric of creativity.

Yonnie is a Delaware-based multimedia artist who has exhibited in a solo show, The Floating Stinging, in Wilmington, DE, and several other Wilmington-based group shows. With a Master of Architecture from the Tyler School of Art, Samara Weaver is also a Wilmington-based artist featured in several group shows at the Winterthur Museum, DE, Rockwood Museum, DE, The Delaware Contemporary Art Museum, DE, Delaware Art Museum, DE, among others. With a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Delaware, Tish Williams is also a Wilmington-based artist featured in several shows at the University of Delaware, DE, Chris White Gallery, DE, Artscape, DE, and Frederick Arts Center, MD.

Curated by Emerging Curators: Jillian Pini and Sasha Thompson

Opening night

The Emerging Curator Platform

In partnership with The Delaware Art Museum, emerging curators Jillian Pini and Sasha Thompson had the opportunity to curate Interwoven in the John William Gallery space.

Sponsored by John William Gallery, the Emerging Curator Platform is designed as a partnership across corporate and nonprofit organizations. It offers essential training opportunities for emerging curators from underrepresented communities in the museum field. The combined professional expertise from our team at John William Gallery, The Delaware Art Museum, and the spacious atrium of 1313 North Market sets the stage for guidance in the practical skills and best practices of exhibition research, design, planning, and management that support the artist’s intentions and expand the visitor experience. The platform aims to showcase the work of artists from underrepresented communities in museum and gallery exhibition programs.

Interwoven is currently on display at 1313 North Market St, Wilmington, DE, from 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Monday - Friday.
